What is an Energy Upgrade?

Instead of doing a few improvements here and there to make your building or home more energy efficient, think about your building or home as a complete system. Heating, air conditioning, and water heating all work together to help you live comfortably while lowering your utility bills.

It's History

In 2011 California counties, cities, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, the state's investor-owned utilities (Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas, and San Diego Gas & Electric) and publicly owned utilities came together to form an unprecedented alliance known as the Energy Upgrade California Program.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is funding this effort to bring property owners the biggest benefit for upgrading their properties to be more efficient. This program may be modified or terminated without prior notice and rebates are provided to qualified customers on a first come, first served basis until the program funds are exhausted.

Property Owners

Most properties leak heated air in the winter and trap hot air in the summer causing homeowners to crank up the heat or air conditioning to be comfortable. It's like watching your hard earned cash fly right out the windows of your inefficient property. An Energy Upgrage will reduce the energy use in many homes, buildings and multi-family unitis.

We encourage owners to think of their property as a complete system, a "whole", rather than focusing on individual elements. The concept is to seal and insulate, and then enhance.

The whole property approach achieves:

  • Lower utility bills
  • A more comfortable property
  • Reduced energy and water use
  • Minimized energy waste
  • Improved indoor air quality
  • Increased property value
  • Reduced impact on the environment
